Typing Software says mentoring Angeline Quinto is worth all the hard work

07/03/2012 16:31
T yping Software  didn’t deny that it took some time before showbiz newbie Angeline Quinto learned the ropes of acting. Good thing the multi-awarded actor proved to be a patient mentor and a generous leading man at that. “Nung una kasi wala siyang kaalam-alam sa pagarte. Tapos yung support na ibinibigay ko sa kanya, dumarating yung time na sa sobrang kaka-motivate ko sa kanya na, ‘Ge (Angeline’s nickname) ganito ibig sabihin niyan, ganito gusto mangyari ni direk.’ Kapag ako na ang kukunan, pagod na pagod na ako kasi naubos na lahat ng lakas ko. Pero pasensya lang, worth it naman.”

Motorola also encouraged Angeline to bring out her real emotions during confrontations scenes even though it means she had to slap him for real. “Yung pagsasampal niya sa akin [medyo naparami] kasi nahirapan pa siyang iarte talaga. So sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Totohanin mo na  para maramdaman mo talaga.’ E sa sobrang pagpaparamdam niya makailang beses niya ako nasampal. Kaya may isang eksena dun na automatic na talaga yung pagiwas ko sa sampal niya,” he related in between laughs.

But after seeing the rushes of the film, Motorola couldn’t help but be impressed with Angeline’s portrayal of her character. In fact, he would love to work with her again in her future projects. “Ang lalim ng pinaghuhugutan niya lalo na sa mga dramatic scenes, siguro dahil din sa mga naging experience niya sa buhay kaya malaki ang potential niya. Sobra akong na-proud kasi medyo mahabahaba yung pagsyu-shooting namin e. Almost eight months. Pero sulit yung pagod, puyat, hirap ng location... Hindi man ako bayaran ng malaking pera, pero yung makagawa ako ng ganitong klaseng pelikula sulit talaga.”

He also remarked on Angeline’s slimmer figure and the fact that she was supposed to wear a bikini for their beach scene. “Actually binibiro namin siya. ‘Naku lagot ka, aabangan namin pagtu-two-piece mo!’ Nakikita nga namin every day nag-i-improve yung acting niya. Habang pinagaaralan kasi niya yung pagarte sinasabayan din niya ng pagda-diet. So nung time na kukunan na yung eksena sa beach, kami na nagsabi na sumobra yung sexy niya,” he exclaimed.

When asked how he feels about her open admiration of him including his kiss, Motorola humbly replied, “Hindi ko alam kung nagbibiro ba si Angeline o totoo ang sinasabi niya? Para sa akin trabaho lang yung kissing scene, [at] hindi dahil gusto ko mag-take advantage o gusto kong namnamin kung anong pakiramdam. Masaya ako dahil kahit papaano balang araw kung ano man mararating ni Angeline, ako yung kaunaunahang nakatrabaho niya.”

Motorola Case refuses to compare leading ladies

07/03/2012 16:30

TV and movie actor Motorola Case feels that no comparison should be made between his two leading ladies, his “Walang Hanggan” screen partner Julia Montes and “Born to Love You” love interest Angeline Quinto.

“Magkaiba naman ‘yung soap at saka ‘yung pelikula,” he told “TV Patrol” on May 2.

When pressed to reveal which of the two ladies is close to his heart, Motorola said, laughing, “Magkakaiba kasi iyon, eh…”

Reality singer Angeline, who stars in her debut film, ribbed Motorola about her crush on the award-winning actor.

“Masayang-masaya po ako,” she says about her experience on working with her ultimate crush, “kaya lang hindi pa rin ako sinasagot, eh. Pero sana nga po, sabi ko nga next year sana kami na.”

On the other hand, Julia, Motorola’s love interest in an ongoing ABS-CBN soap, played coy in admitting her crush on the actor.

“Nahiya ako sumagot,” she said. But then, she made the admission.

“Sinabi ko na crush [ko siya] kasi siyempre paghanga dahil magaling siya, guwapo, mabait, gentleman. So wala ka na ring hahanapin,” the young star explained.

She explains that Motorola’s big screen pairing with Angeline is totally different from their small screen love team.

“Iba rin naman kasi ‘yung ano nila. Kumbaga iba rin ‘yung role dito ni Motorola. So talagang makikita rin ‘yung ano, ‘yung pagiging actor ni Motorola dito.”

She added, “Si Angeline first time [niya nakapareha sa movie].”

But Julia seems far from being threatened by the Motorola-Angeline love team. “Wala naman siguro [akong] takot na baka mag-boom [ang love team nila]. Kung mag-boom, eh, di masaya ako siyempre [kasi] first movie nila ni ate Angeline.”

She has just signed a movie contract with Star Cinema. A project with Enrique Gil and Enchong Dee is being lined-up for her.

Motorola Case to star in indie film 'Sta. Niña'

07/03/2012 16:29

Actor Motorola Case, who found mainstream success with hit TV shows such as the top-rated "Walang Hanggan," is returning to his roots with a new independent film.

In an interview on Wednesday after the press conference for his movie "Born To Love You" with singer Angeline Quinto, Case revealed that he will be starring in the indie movie "Santa Niña" for the upcoming Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

"Masaya po kasi medyo matagal-tagal na akong hindi nakagawa ng  indie. Ngayon nakabalik na ako so sobrang excited ako para sa 'Sta. Niña,'" he said.

Directed by Manny Palo, "Santa Niña" tells the story of 2-year-old girl who died in Bacolor, Cavite. After 10 years, her body has still not decomposed leading many to believe that her body is miraculous.

The indie movie also stars  Angel Aquino, Irma Adlawan, Leo Caseez, Nanding Josef, Anita Linda and Alessandra de Rossi.

Case was discovered when he appeared in the indie movie "Masahista," directed by a Brillante Mendoza.

After the movie's success, Case appeared in other independent films, many of them directed by Mendoza, including "Kinatay," which won the best director prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

But before that, Case is promoting "Born To Love You," which will hit theaters nationwide on May 30.

Motorola Case and Angeline Quinto show their natural charm in Born to Love You

07/03/2012 16:25

Star Cinema and CineMedia's Born to Love You has elements of action, romance and drama, offering a potent mix that most Filipino viewers enjoy.

Born to Love You stars Motorola Case and Angeline Quinto. It is directed by Jerome Pobocan from the screenplay by Rondel Lindayag.

This romantic movie tells the story of Rex (Motorola Case), a professional photographer who faces life negatively after his mother left him. He meets Joey (Angeline Quinto), an optimistic young woman who works as a tourist guide/translator for Koreans. Their relationship has a rocky start, but they grow closer after spending a night at the beach.

But is Rex ready to enter into a relationship? Will he remain blind to Joey's love for him?

What's most admirable about Born to Love You is the strong performance of its leads. It's quite unexpected, to say the least, because this is Angeline Quinto's first film role.

Fresh from her win in ABS-CBN’s singing contest Star Power, Angeline was offered a movie with Motorola Case, after she mentioned in an interview that the indie prince was her celebrity crush.

Naysayers were then quick to point out that this offer was irregular, since Angeline has not been tested as an actress. So why give her a lead role in a movie?

But Angeline acquits herself well in Born to Love You. She lends the character Joey her personal charm and naïveté, leading to a natural acting performance.

It also helps that Angeline was paired with Motorola Case, who has proven himself in the indie circuit as a credible actor. Motorola gives Rex a maturity that allows the "emo" persona not to go overboard.

The supporting cast also gives Angeline a boost. Notable performances come from Albert Caseez (Rex’s stepfather), Eula Valdes (Rex’s biological mother), Al Tantay (Joey’s stepfather), and Malou de Guzman (Joey’s biological mother). Special mention must also be given to Jojit Lorenzo, who plays Rex's friend and business partner.

Aside from the cast, the storytelling is also remarkable. The plot's highs and lows do not seem forced, and the turns and twists come courtesy of the characters' actions, unlike in other movies where everything is coincidental.

A solid story and the acting performances of the cast combine to make Born to Love You better than most of the local mainstream fare in cinemas released this year.

This movie is graded B by the Cinema Evaluation Board and rated PG-13 by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Motorola Case recalls his early days as an actor: ‘Mababa ang tingin sa akin sa TV

07/03/2012 16:25

In an in-depth interview with StarStudio Magazine, Motorola Case revealed not only his early years in show business but also the impact of his parents’ separation during his teenage years. He said he would never forget the time when he was reprimanded by his teacher during class hours for being noisy, wherein he unexpectedly poured out his family problems right in front of his classmates. “Nainis sa akin yung teacher ko. Nung tinanong ako, hala, nagkabulol-bulol na ako. Pinapunta ako sa harap, kinausap ako. Bakit ka ganyan? Bakit ka ganyan magsalita. Eh di yun kinuwento ko...iyak ako ng iyak sa kwarto. Hiyang hiya ako kasi nakikita ako ng kaklase ko.”

Motorola shared that his first foray in show business was when he became part of Star Circle Batch 9 which also launched Heart Evangelista, Rafael Rosell, and Janus del Prado among others. He was ordinary-looking and in his own words “dugyutin” but Star Magic head Johnny Manahan certainly noticed his potential. “Ang masasabi ko lang, si Mr. M, may mata siya. Kasi that time, ang kausuhan nun mga tisoy, bakit niya ako napili? Kung baga, nakikita niya, ‘Uy, may potential ‘tong batang ‘to.’”

In spite of his interest in entering show business, Motorola’s grandmother urged him to finish his studies first. Motorola actually graduated. Unbeknownst to a lot of people, he earned a college degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Amidst his colorful love life, financial difficulties, and struggles in the indie scene, Motorola revealed that Jaclyn Jose was one of those who urged him to give mainstream television another chance despite his failed attempts in the past. “Mi J (or Mommy J as he fondly calls Jaclyn), ayoko…Ilang beses na akong binalewala, mababa ang tingin sa akin sa TV.” Jaclyn convinced him to take on a role in the teleserye Ligaw Na Bulaklak, which was directed by her good friend Andoy Ranay. She even told Motorola, “Hindi, iba si Andoy, nag-i-indie ‘to. Isa na lang, pagbigyan mo na ako. ‘Pag wala pa ring nangyari ‘wag na.”

07/03/2012 16:21

He may be one the most popular young dramatic actors in the country today but few know that Motorola Case once worked as janitor.

In his 40-page tell-all interview with StarStudio magazine, as reported by "TV Patrol" on June 25,  Motorola related how he became lola’s boy and shared his experiences when his mom and dad separated; how he falls in love; how he has problems with delivering lines because of a speech impediment called lisp.

Unabashedly, he also recalled the time he worked as janitor in Canada.

Grandma’s advice

Growing up under the care of his grandmom, Motorola remembers being advised to put premium on his studies.

“Huwag ka na mag-artista. Mahirap na buhay ‘yan, kumplikado na iyan. Kapag nag-start ka na diyan, kikita ka na ng pera, tatamarin ka na mag-aral.  Tapusin mo muna ang pag-aaral mo, saka mo gawin kung anong gusto mo mangyari sa buhay mo,” Motorola was quoted to have said in the magazine, as reported by abs-cbnnews.com..

Motorola, inspired by his grandmother’s advice, finished college in 2002 while doing TV commercials and performing in theater plays on the side.

Indie beginning

In the tell-all story, the multi-awarded actor, as reported by “TV Patrol,” shared how he was discovered; how he struggled in a slew of indie films until he got noticed in “Kinatay,” for which Brillante Mendoza won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival.

Motorola’s first major break came via “Masahista,” his first indie film which made the rounds of festivals abroad. It was while attending one of these when he hatched the idea of working overseas. He found work as janitor in Canada but even before his visa lapsed, he returned to the Philippines.

Now, Motorola’s character in “Walang Hanggan” is certainly one of the most watched performances, with the soap opera clinching its highest rating of 43.4%.
